Taragarh Fort is located at a distance of around 40 km from Kota.It was the home of a major princely state at the height of the Rajput heydays. This massive fort built in the year 1354 and accessible by a steep pitched road leading to its main gateway. The gateway of the Taragarh Fort is topped by rampant elephants. It consists of huge reservoirs carved out of solid rock and the Bhim Burj, the largest of the battlements, on which is mounted a famous cannon. An excellent bird's view of the town from the fort is another attraction among tourists.

The main entrance to the imposing Taragarh fort is located some 39 kms away from the town centre that can be approached by a sharply sloping road. The main gateway of the fort has some meticulous carvings of elephants. Infact, there are three gateways to the fort. They are named Lakshmi Pol, Phuta Darwaza and Gagudi ki Phatak. Most parts of these impressive gateways are now in ruins. During its heydays, Taragarh fort was renowned for its tunnels crisscrossing the entire hillside. These tunnels allowed the king and his deputies to flee in case there was an imminent danger to their lives from enemies.

There are three entryways to the Taragarh fort: Lakshmi Pol, Phuta Darwaza and Gagudi ki Phatak. Most parts of these impressive gateways are now in ruins. The Taragarh fort has an enormous stone tower (Bhim Burj) which stores a hefty amount of mortar named Garbha Gubjan. This is the second largest collection of cannon in India. Another striking facet of Taragarh fort is its giant water reservoirs which supplied water to the populace in times of crisis. During its halcyon days, Taragarh fort was prominent for its tunnels intertwining the whole hillside. These tunnels also served as emergency savior to the king and his ministers to escape when their lives were in peril.

The massive fort is the first thing that strikes the mind at Taragarh Fort. The fort built atop the hill is quite conspicuous and striking in appearance. With impressive gateways leading to the fort memories of the past get unwound and mysteries unraveled. Elephant carving mark the entrance of the fort. The fort premises have large water storage tanks which are believed as never being dry. The fort has a very large battlement and also one large canon, Bhim Burj. The canon, of which only ramparts are left was a phenomenon in the past. It was much feared weapon the rivals could think upon, in the bygone days.

The storage tanks are also worth seeing. These tanks were purposefully constructed; to serve at the time of siege. Apart from its magnificence the fort also a nice spot to have a birds view of the town below.An excellent bird's view of the town from the fort is another attraction among tourists.
